If you could just add proofreading to that list...

The only thing that list means is that you have a better shot of being financially successful in life...But that is a good thing

you're close but not quite there.

you've gotta be into the science fiction/fantasy and play Dugeons and Dragons to be a REAL geek.

LOL!!!!! Dungeons and Dragons!!! D&D!! Haha, that is funny. Two of my friends and I talk to this guy online who's a total computer geek and he plays D&D, and we've talked about how dorky that is. One of my friends compares it to playing paper dolls. But then none of us have ever played it so I guess we shouldn't diss it. smiling smiley

PSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's nothing like playing paper dolls. the fate of the known world is not at stake playing with Barbie, ok? and it's quite a rush when Durin your dwarf fighter is able to slay the dragon with a high dice roll and win the game and you can go "HAHAHAH! EAT **** AND DIE, DUNGEON MASTER, I TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING YOU THREW AT ME! MUAHAHAHHAA!" and then i generally go off on a tangent screaming in dwarvish...

yes, i am a dork. i also play collectible card games (but not that contemptable Magic) and go to gaming conventions with other dorks where i spend 12 straight hours playing card games in hard-fought tournaments.

but i like geeks and dorks. they're nice because they're constantly ridiculed by the "cool" people who are really just too dense to get it.

we sell d&d paraphernalia where i work and all the buyers of that merchandise seem a little shady if you ask me...they spend too much time mumbling and too little time on personal hygene. no, im just kidding thats just this one group of guys. most of the d&d kids just steal. rebels. and my brother is huge into the d&d scene. but he will never really talk to me about it, i think hes trying to protect me from the seedy d&d underworld...or maybe he just thinks im too dense to get it. and he has this best friend who is like the president of the dork club, and i have the biggest crush on him. dorks are super sexy.

oh, and im spending next weekend at a buffy the vampire slayer convention. hows that for dorky?

Don't worry too much about being a geek, Sarah ... I've done my share of math contests myself. I don't know turing but I do know Befunge, Rube, and Brainf*ck. I play in a Scrabble club at my local bookstore, and last night at 1:30 in the morning I was running a word game tournament on the Internet.

Look at it this way: if you remain true to your geekdom, you're more likely to meet people who share your interests.

I didn't much care for the "Lord Of The Rings" movie. I haven't read the books. Are they really that good?
Re: geekiest geek of all

wow Christina fucking rocks. you are perhaps one of the coolest girls i've never technically met, just for insulting people in elvish. and for reading the Silmarillion, of all books, more than once. (which i like a little more than LotR)

my friends and i write elvish and dwarvish.

and yes, The Lord of the Rings books are incredible. so are the movies, but they simply don't do the books justice. LotR gave birth to a new genre and a new group of social outcasts: the fantasy geeks.

It is in the determination to try and reach that 'facet of genious' that characters such as Tolkien would have achieved what they have.

I would imagine he too was striving to achieve a goal set by role models and influences before, that he himself looked up to.

Yet it is in his (and others) determination and focus that we all can become great.

Be it in writing a legacy, or living one.

Er, I doubt she'll appreciate that.
