Miss Alva Maria

What a great song!!

It's one of my favorites.. i like it a lot specially the beginning with the harmonica and the first line:"know I'm young, but its the oldest I've ever been"

But I have a couple of questions......Where did the name Miss Alva Maria came from?? and what is the meaning of this song?

Miss Alva & Maria are Natalie Wood (Maria from West Side Story) References, and John refers to Natalie Wood in the song, he had/has a thing for her.
