is it just me....or is that song just an extraordinary song for ending the record. just has that "happy ending record" sound.

esp. the chorus, "maybe we can find a way...."

just some random post to waste time hehe

I don't like albums that just end abruptly, like "Great Divide" does. It needs a secret track!!! I love secret tracks on albums! It's like, you think you're buying 13 tracks, but then, oh my god! There's another!!! But only if it's a good secret track, like a song or something. Alien Ant Farm's CD "ANThology" and Papa Roach's first CD "Infest" come to mind as having great secret songs. "Love is Here" from Starsailor sucks, because you wait like 12 minutes just to hear them doing some weird Gregorian chant.

i like the last song to be mellow and trail off. it can't be a rocking song, because then the album just doesn't feel complete.

you listen to The Madding Crowd, and it ends with Wannabe, and you just have this feeling that the album is over. you listen to Great Divide and you're expecting another song to come up. it's more of a middle of the album track, if you ask me.

^ I agree Mike.

I think 'secret' songs are annoying as hell.

Especially when your trying to record them onto a portable media. You have to cut out all the long winded silence crap and then split it into its own song so that you can skip to it, without going all the way through the track before.

I say: Although nice touches at first, I would rather have two extra tracks that take up the deafening silence bit, than sit around waiting for the unpredictable 'secret' track to start.

And while I'm ranting about CD's; it really messes with my head when the track listing doesn't have a number order printed down the side..... and you have to workout what track you're trying to get to on the CD player. Especially whilst driving. Grrrrrr. It's just lame.

Wow.

I really vented some frustration there.

Must be my time of the month....

Hmm.. As much as I like Great Divide, I agree with everyone else that it shouldn't be the last song. Maybe a song like.. Ocean? I'm not sure what song would be a better song, really.

Anywho, I hate when they have hidden tracks. Like Matchbox 20 has this really pretty song as their last song on the CD then there's a hidden track and I really don't like the song.. but I like the first one, so if I wanted to repeat just the good song over and over like I do sometimes with songs I like, I can't 'cause that other annoying song is on the end of it. I am quite bitter about that, haha. If they're gonna put on bonus tracks, they should put them as new #'s rather than on the last track.

best secret song? obviously "all by myself" at the end of green day's dookie. hands down the best.

hmmm...i guess i never really notice which song is last because i always just put it on random.

this has nothing to do with this topic but i got an advance copy of the new jack johnson cd yesterday...and its awesome.

i like great divide where it is on SHU because it's a contrast to the last song on TMC, wannabe. as was mentioned before, wannabe was a slow, mellow song that kind of fades away, while great divide is a powerful, somewhat-rocking song that ends abruptly. both are great last songs for their respective albums.

I Feel Fine would be a much greater albumcloser! A song with a perfect climax.

alright well you're wrong about Great Divide being a good closer. i don't think there's a good last song on the album other than maybe Beautiful

I want SHU to come out now too. And Michelle Branch's CD but that'll be out soon enough (June 10th). So I'm excited... for both of 'em.

Great Divide is a great song, but I definitely see why it might be a bit awkward as the final track.

Hmm...

Maybe it'll be different once the record actually comes out?

Uhh, yeah, I mean the actual release in the summer under the new label. John said it might have a few new songs so maybe the order will be shuffled a bit as well.

I know that the version of SHU that would have been released by Sony has been out for a while....I've been enjoying it since last August.
