I recently decided I wanna train to run a half-marathon in March, so I just upped my distances, and since it's so dark early due to the STUPID SCOTTISH FARMERS, I switched from cross country to road running. And it's made the pain in my left inside shin muscles change from a slight "ow" to waking up and finding "Christ on a bike, I can't actually walk."
How d'you get rid of them please?

you need to get better shoes... that could be one reason
another is you moved to quickly into the training... shin splints are a sign of poor conditioning
i'm an athletic training major... first.. i'd take a few days off... ice them constantly... strecth your calf muscles and various other muscles.. massage the area that is hurt in a day of two, but wait for inflammation to go down... the gradually start into the running again.
running on conrete does that a lot, so get new shoes, and go to a store that will actually look at your foot so that you can pick what type of shoe you want. don't be cheap, a good pair of shoes is so important if you run a lot, otherwise you'll pay for it in medical bills down the road
Awesome, thanks. It doesn't hurt too much now all the time I keep putting ibuprofen gel on it. Considering it's been bulding up for a really long time (but I never knew there was actually anything wrong because it went away as soon as I stopped running), is it going to take a really long time to heal?
Excuses to buy new shoes are always welcome )

umm... it can be a chronic injury if you don't heal them properly... like I said... ice em... rest em... take ibuprofen... and SHOES SHOES SHOES... with good arch support are key
Oh yes. Today. They're pretty and full of gel and bouncy. And are actually running shoes as opposed to a pair of old sketchers. And they're specially for over-pronation )
