Bus or plane??
Hey all! I have a question for ya. I know most of you travel quite a bit and I am going to TX this summer with some friends (mid July or so) and I was wondering if it's a better deal to take the bus or a plane.
We originally planned to take the bus because of the greyhound 2 for 1 deal and 'cause it seems like it would be a lot cheaper than a plane. And we also don't mind that it takes like a day and a half to get down there 'cause we were looking forward to that as a bonding experience anyway. Anyway, my mom seems to think it'd be a much better deal to go by plane 'cause it would be almost as cheap as bus 'cause not as many people are flying lately... plus it's not too common for people from MN to go down to TX in the middle of July 'cause... it's like going from hot to hotter. And she also seems to think it'd be safer. So anywho... anyone got any thoughts on this? I'm fairly sure we're gonna take the bus just 'cause that's what we originally planned and it'll be fun to act crazy and scare people... muahaha. But any thoughts y'all have would be greatly appreciated.
are u f**king nuts?? take plane, the bus suckssssssssss !!!!!!!!!!
what Lou said
you couldnt pay me enough to take the bus!
i'm taking a bus to north carolina this summer methinks
is it gonna be that awful of a ride for 16 hours? -Mike ![]() Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
i took what should have been a hour and half ride to NJ on a bus, and it lasted like 4.. and i almost jumped out the window in hopes of being run over
~SOFiA~ "you wont hear me, still you endear me, now..woo woo"
Ummm I spent 5 hours on a bus, and then 4 hours on a plane.....I have to say the plane is WAY FUCKING BETTER. Ok I did meet some really nice people from NZ on the bus, but a lot of those people were scary....then again I was traveling alone. But yea seriously if you can, take a plane.
Ok, so I take it you all think busses suck... haha. However! Money seriously is something I have to consider because I do not have it, period. Whatever saves me the most money is the best. And really... I've ridden a bus before to Florida with the marching band and it wasn't that bad.... ha, maybe I'm crazy though.
So anyway, thanks, I am definetely considering plane waaaaay more... I just don't know how much more it costs to take a plane rather than a bus, so I gotta do some researchin'.
riding greyhound and riding a school bus are completely different worlds.....so if you can find a cheap way to fly then take, if not buy good mace and a laser zapper.
A bus, like for school is one thing. A greyhound... is another.
In 5th grade (ok so ages ago) I took a bus from the U.P. of Michigan to Chicago... not bad, with friends, etc. Last year for spring break I took a greyhound from the U.P. to Holland MI... The Greyhound trip took 12 hours each way. If I were to drive, its six. To research, try www.orbitz.com (unless you have Spirit Air near you). And look on www.greyhound.com and they will tell you how long of a ride it will be. Flying is gonna cost more, but you will save so much time. Colleen.
Ok... It wasn't a regular school bus, it was MN coaches, and they were nice. And I don't see that much difference except that I won't know the people that aren't my friends... I had a fun time on the marching band bus and I only had one friend with me.. this time I'll have three. It'll be a bonding experience if that's waht we end up doing.
Anyway! I know how much it sucks to try and sleep on busses so that's one thing that makes me want to go plane instead. I would never consider bus if I was going alone, but since I'm going with friends I think it'll be better.. like Colleen said. Anywho, I shall have to bring it up with my friends and see what they think.
see, before you set out on this day and a half long "bonding experience" it sounds like its going to be fun. but you dont consider how sick you are going to get of these people. i know what you are going to say "but these people are my best freinds, i love them, i would never get sick of them, we spend mass amounts of time together all the time..." but take it from me, you are going to get sick of them. the ride alone is going to make you crabby because it is so long and bumpy and boring, so on top of that your freinds cute little mannerisms are going to get not so cute, especially when the old homeless man behind you wont stop drooling on you.
on the other hand.. should you take a bus you have zero chance of plummeting to the earth in a huge fireball.
The choice is entirely up to you.
however, you could roast in a huge fireball on the ground if the bus were to, say, collide with a semi loaded with propane or gas or diesel.
or it could get hit by a train and you could be crushed in the stampede for the door. or it could flip over...
Some people have a big imagination...
But you have a better chance of dying in an car/bus/ etc than you do on a plane. so there.
HI COLLEEN!!!!!
i want you to tell me about ny. im going to be online later waiting for you.
HI MELISSA!!!!!
Define later.... I gotta go get the oil changed in my car sometime today.
well, im at work now and i have to work at my other job right after i get done here and i will be done with all the work by 11. so is that too late? i hope not because i really want to talk to you.
actually that will be fine. I have to work tonite too (good old Panera Bread) I should be back around 11:30- midnight my time, 10:30-11 your time, so I'll be online then for awhile ok?
Time to go to WalMart. Colleen. PS- Sorry to ruin your post Heather! ![]()
great. later dude.
Hmm.. Melissa you may be right. However.. I did ride the bus down to Florida and that's somewhere around the same time, and I didn't get sick of my friend that I sat with. Plus, lol, I know you said not to say this, but two of my friends were roommates and I hung out at their room like all day, so the three of us are quite used to eachother. But anywho, I can see how an old man drooling on me might get kinda gross and plus my friend said Amish people ride a lot and they don't use deoderant.... haha. So.. plane sounds like a better and better option... just gotta earn the money first.
well, actually i would like to take a bus somewhere sometime mostly because of the old homeless people. i mean, if they are homeless they probably have a really good story to tell. its just that for every interesting homeless person, there are like 12 creepy drooling ones. so odds are on the bus somewhere is someone you dont really want to spend a lot of time in a tin box with.
but if you are willing to play the odds and just take the bus, i would do so only one way and just fly back. because in my experience, its the ride home when your friends tend to become hidous. on the way there you have all the excitement, but on the ride home you just want to get home and sleep, and thats when all the little things that each friend did build up to one big annoying hideous friend. i go on a lot of road trips, actually i just got back from one, and the ride home is always the worst part. although, i have always driven in a car, where one of the people has to be the driver and the passenger has to stay awake, thats probably where most of the tension comes from. people just get so annoying when you cant sleep. but maybe its just me. so i guess what im trying to say is if you think you have it in you and your friends are all for it, take the bus. but consider just one way.
Sheesh. You're on the board as much as I am...
was that an insult?
oh yeah, well i was on your moms board last night. so there. AAAAAHHHHHHH hahahahahahahhaha hahahahahahhaha gotta love bad mom jokes. i cant stop making them now because i spent the entire weekend with a girl who makes every sentence you say to her into a sick mom joke. sometimes they are really dirty. and other times really lame. like the above one. oh, and colleen i have the coolest story to tell you. i cant wait.
If you ride grey hound, than you probably won't have to worry about homeless people. It may be cheaper than a plane to ride but it aint that cheap.
Homeless.. money.. No, I'm not seeing the relation. I absolutely love her when she smiles
and after all those nasty things i said about the bus i find myself checking rates to ny at the end of this month...
my cousin said riding the bus from LI to GA was the single most horrible event shes ever incountered and that she would never ride a bus again...i personally would rather die than ride a bus...tomorrow i fly

ok heather, im sorry to keep bringing this topic up again with my all over the place opinions, but as i was doing the dishes just now i remembered why i cant quite say no way to the taking of the bus.
so i used to work with this middle aged single mother with a perpetually tired look on her face, and i think she was a little bit of an alcoholic, and shed had this dead end job for the last 12 years or so. so one day i was working with her alone and we were talking about boyfriends and she told me the saddest story id ever heard. i actually cried when she wasnt looking. so she said "yeah when i was about your age i took the bus to california to stay with my aunt, and on the way back i was seated in front of the cutest boy id ever seen. so i struck up a conversation with him and we ended up sitting together and talking the 15 hours to his stop. and we really hit it off, you know how with certain people you just hit it off? so anyway, when we got to his stop he asked me to spend the day with him and just catch the later bus home, and i wanted to so badly, but i thought my mom would kill me so i just had to say goodbye. that might have been the biggest mistake i ever made, it didnt really seem like it then, but looking back... because in the moment we never thought to exchange phone numbers or anything, so i never saw him again. and he might have been my soul mate, you never know where it might have gone from there...." and so now she is a middle aged single mother stuck in a dead end job who drinks too much, and never takes off her sad face. so the moral of the story is you never know who you are going to meet on the bus...er something. Post Edited (05-15-03 17:07)
Awww what a story. That's awesome... about meeting people. I don't think that'll happen with me though 'cause.. well if it's me and my friends, we won't talk to anyone else, lol.
But anywho, I brought it up with my friends today and they all still think bus 'cause it's so much cheaper and we are all poor college students who need every penny we can get. And we don't mind the long trip for now... if it turns out to be horrible.... then we'll have learned a lesson, hehe. You never know til you give it a try hehe though I guess the same could be said about a plane... ohh well.
Just take the bus.. it's pretty clear that you want to.. ya know? For various reasons but the bottom line is that it seems that you are leaning towards it.
And Melissa.. see.. that is what makes you great.. the tears and the very end.. even though you played it off a little.. that was classic.. you can't fake that stuff. I absolutely love her when she smiles
please listen to me and all the other people who are in aggreence with me
whatever it costs get the plane i got a bus from la to vancouver when i was over there can i hear an omg - i wanted to die and if that was not bad enough i got it back i ran out of money and coudln't get a flight then after i got back home my friend and i decided to get a train to melbounre - got to be better than the bus we thought. we got the overnight down - it was so uncomfortable and by the time we got to melbourne we spend the entire holiday sleeping, and then getting it back - it took twice as long as it was meant to for the follwing reasons: 1. someone threw themselves infront of a train the night before so we were delayed for hours waiting for them to clean it up 2. it was so hot outside that if the train went its actualy speedlimit the sparks would cause a bush fire - we coudl see people walking faster than the train was going by the time we made it back to sydney we had missed 2 jimmy eat world shows and a sparta concert that we were meant to attend. worst experience in my life time get the plane |
