What's up with John's lyrics?

I thought John was happily married, so what inspired the lyrics to "Anywhere?"

Maybe he wrote it a while ago?

I dunno, but I totally connect with the lyrics. Girl I can't stop thinking about, yup. She doesn't know I exist much, yup. Tis sad, yup.

From what I was told, all 5 songs are written from observations of other people (The person who told me talks to John's wife, and yes they're still happily married.)

I am having a hard time choosing a favorite - at the moment, it's "Ultimate Love Song" - I love that he has the guts to make the big claims and say the kind of bold obvious stuff we've all felt for someone at some time. Plus, it's really rocking - the opening riff, how hard the chorus hits - I loooove!
