Good Friend Acoustic Tab???
Genesis is so cool because he makes up zany chord names
ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
ohhhh isn't Genesis cool with his "Oh, I know music theory, and while I'm not sure whether or not you know any music theory yourself, I'm going to go on and speak as if you dont," attitude.
all bow before Genesis, the King of Coolness and one snazzy, snazzy dresser -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
Isn't Genesis cool (please notice the use of the lowercase C, seeing as I got the capital one) with his big, bad, booty-shakin', Mike-defacin' remarks? He who makes his own comments and flips out when someone makes an obviously ridiculous remark about chord names. (Flying off the handle can be a lot of fun, can't it? I certainly would know.)
Though I'm not entirely sure of an instance where, when I didn't know much about something, I decided it wasn't worth knowing altogether. But I'm sure you can conjur up something. I don't quite remember bashing you for having a different opinion than I do. All I have done in this instance is make an assinine remark about chord names, a remark that I wholly admit is an assinine one. Of course, the comment about the chord-names wasn't meant to say "Hey, Genesis, you're an ******* and ought to be run over by a garbage truck." Rather, it was more of a "Hey, Genesis knows what the hell he's talking about." Because, as it turns out, you know what the hell you're talking about, and obviously are a technically skilled player, as has been inferred by me in the past. But hey, what's that matter. You've had your say in a null controversy. And you're going to need a big fucking bucket to catch all that whale vomit. -Mike Go listen to my band. Not an argument, but a misunderstanding. And no, I wouldn't have reacted that way, seeing as such words as "zany" were used, followed by a long "oooohhhhhhh."
But no harm done, and people will have something interesting to read for three minutes. I was waiting for someone to yell at us to stop, but alas. -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
<<If the acoustic version of good friend is played with a capo on 2, then they must be tuned half step down, in turn making it a capo 1 with a standard guitar. The acoustic version that I have (from the radio show) is a half step down from the album version, which is capo 2.>>
I'm talking about the album and Y98 recording. The Palmer's Acoustic show shouldn't be used for tabbing as someone said the guitars were downtuned because John had a sore throat and couldn't reach higher octaves. As for what songs are capoed? I'll get back to you on that.
Uhh, what the **** is up with this thread?
I'm hardly a great guitarist but after playing a couple years I've learned a decent amount of chords. Genesis wasn't doing anything wrong or "showing off" his knowledge in the least with his descriptions, as Cadd9 and G are pretty basic and common chords and are found in many rock songs. Heres the capo list the best I know:
So Far Away: 3rd Absolutely: None If I Am: 4th End Up Alone: Can be played either none or 2nd (I think the band plays it with none) Sometimes: Dunno Bob Dylan: None 257 Weeks: None Bitter: None Back To Me: None Crazy: Dunno Revolve: None Wanna Be: None Favorite Song: NONE Good Friend: Second Emily: None Marvelous: None Still Here: Dunno Joneses: Dunno Don't Look Back: None I Feel Fine: Dunno Ocean: None Beautiful: 4th Everything: None Great Divide: None
they're just funny sounding names...
it's like, if you're a psychologist, and you're like "I'm going to psychoanalyze you to determine if you suffer from neurosis or psychosis using the techniques of psychdynamic hypno-therapy," some people will be like "Oh, hey, that sounds complicated," where for you, the psychologist, it's perfectly normal and simple. similarly, i would imagine that if someone doesn't play guitar, and you're like "Yeah, it's a Cadd9 into a Dsus4 followed my a Gm#, someone would be like "Hey..." all i was pointing out -Mike Go listen to my band. I didn't check all of them 'cause I assume they're right (since you got all the ones I knew off the top of my head). But here's the rest.
Sometimes: capo 2 (some chords have to be octaves) Crazy: none Still Here: down 1/2 step Joneses: down 1/2 step I Feel Fine: down 1/2 step Of course, that's all assuming my guitar is in tune...
How do you play I Feel Fine? I seem to hear it a different way everytime I listen, but I always thought it was drop D.
And the ones I listed as none aren't necessarily standard. Favorite Song is half-step down. Great Divide may be a half-step or possibly even a whole step down (I've never tabbed it.) But I guess the updated list would be: So Far Away: 3rd Absolutely: None If I Am: 4th End Up Alone: Can be played either none or 2nd (I think the band plays it with none) Sometimes: Capo 2 Bob Dylan: None 257 Weeks: None Bitter: None Back To Me: None Crazy: None Revolve: None Wanna Be: None Favorite Song: Half-step down Good Friend: Second Emily: None Marvelous: None Still Here: Half-step down Joneses: Half-step down Don't Look Back: None I Feel Fine: Half-step down Ocean: None Beautiful: 4th Everything: None Great Divide: No capo, but besides that dunno

Here is End Up Alone:
Intro: G-D-A-E Played like: (v = down ^ = up) v v ^ v ^ v v v ^ v ^ v E?3-3-5-x-x-5-5-5-7-x-x-7 B?3-3-7-x-x-7-5-5-9-x-x-9 G?4-4-7-x-x-7-6-6-9-x-x-9 D?5-5-7-x-x-7-7-7-9-x-x-9 A?5-5-5-x-x-5-7-7-7-x-x-7 E?3-3-----------5-5----------- And another guitar going: E-5-5 B-5-5 Repeatedly John Verse: (Chords same way as before) G D What I see is what's to be A E Cartwheels to eternity G D 'Round and 'Round my head she goes A E In the good dreams though she wears no clothes Break: A-E-G-D-A-E-F#-D G D Took our picture by the sea, A E The ocean waits to carry me. Brian Verse: D A E F# Saw her running barefoot but the ground there never touched her feet D A E F# Watched her in the shadows while the tide came in and claimed our beach D A E F# We could've made it in the dunes we had it all within our reach D A E F# But I've got a lot of life to learn and you've got a lot of life to teach Chorus: A E G D Why do we all end up alone A E F# D Why do we always have to find our way back home A E G D Why do we all end up alone A E F# D We gather no moss just like a rolling Then the solo switches from Gmajor scale to Gminor Pentatonic and back.
