Here is my take on the status of the band: I would compare it to a married couple that still loves one another, but they are bored with each other and have started seeing other people. In the meantime, they are maintaining the marriage (while separated), but you can tell that it is only a matter of time.
And now I ask you this, why do John and Brian each feel they will have greater success on their own? If there musical styles are truly growing apart, than I suppose it makes sense; but it seems sad that they both want to only write new music for their respective solo projects.
I leave you with one final question: Why is NineDays still a band at this point? Further, in what way are they really still a band? Getting together to play a couple of times per year while not developing any new "band" material doesn't seem like an active band to me.
Please note: I say all of the above in the sense of "tough love," because I really want things to work out for the band!
