I don't remember where, but i recently read something about how it was ridiculous that people had to take a test to drive but were freely allowed to have and bring up as many children as they wanted, controlling human life and possibly reeking havock on the earth.

I think it should be set that if you don't get a 90 on the road test, you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all. Look at all the terrible drivers out there. And they passed the test! I want near-perfection. It's too much of a responsibility for people to just be "good enough" to drive. I went them to be superb, and I don't think it's asking too much.
People should have to pass tests to have kids, too.
If I were king of the world, there would be tests for everything.

i agree. i don't think i'm ready to have a license yet either because i can't parallel park. doesn't mean i wasn't hoping that i'd magically be ready by this morning.
not the end of the world, just need more practice 
parallel parking is over-rated, in the last two years i did it once-just to see if i could, and i did it, but when will i need to do it again?, prolly never
and i know a kid who is a superb driver and just freaked out at the test and failed it 3 times, i also know another kid who is aweful and passed the fifth time b/c the chick giving it hit the wrong key on her palm pilot and there is apparently no cancel button...

i failed the first time too. it was the curb, while parallel parking. and i hit it with quite a bit of force too. after the test teh guy told me that if you cant do it, just pull in halfway and be like "well, thats the best i can do." you fail the parallel parking part, but you can still pass the test.
oh, and by the way, i still cant parallel park. sometimes i have to park 4 or 5 blocks away just because i suck.
I parallel park every day of my life, but I live in Queens and parallel parking here is just as normal as eating pancakes for breakfast.
Essential if there isn't much space, but not much use for it out on the Island or elsewhere. Still good to know how.

You drive up, see there's an available parking spot right between two other parked cars, and have to manage fitting your car in a spot that's just a little larger than your automobile.
It's a trip.

In NC you don't have to parallel park on the driving test, but thats because you dont really have to use it here. The first time I ever parallel parked was in NY.
i had to do it with a tractor trailer. no problem !!!

and actually on the road test they only have you park behind 1 car, not between 2, giving you A LOT of room, and i still managed to fail

If I lived in NY I'd teach you. I have pulling into parralel spaces down fine. It's pulling out into the middle of a busy street that fucks me up.
I got a 98% and I hit the curb twice while parallel parking....
tests are biased, judges aren't.
when i took my roadtest in ny i was like WHY DO I NEED PARALLEL PARKING. now i live in savannah where i parallel parking every single day. im glad they made me learn it, if they hadnt id be fucked.
