computer help

ok, so for whatever reason, my AIM won't connect. My interenet works fine (obviously because i'm on the boards) and all and my little modem thing says that it's connected, but the messenger won't work. i've run spybot, i've run norton anti-virus.......i'm out of ideas. anyone?

It won't erase your buddy list. Everything related to keeping track of your buddies is server side (aol). maybe someone else logged onto your sn? that you don't know about?

I've got this annoying firewall program on my computer that my dad put on where sometimes it won't let me get on messengers. It's probably not that though.

Kevin, one of 5 things come to mind for this.

1) There is a problem with the way YOUR connection connects to the AOL servers. This can be remedied by changing the ports for AIM, and/or checking to make sure that it's not trying to connect to a proxy.

2) Since it's showing that your still on...maybe you have a cell phone and your logged in that way as well? Sometimes, that causes problems. Multiple users aren't any good. I believe it supports up to like 2 or 3.

3) Your ISP temporarily blocked something through the connection. Probably the ports used to connect to messengers.

4) Reset your modem. Although it may not be your computer as the problem, usually it's the source.

5) Try a password recovery...maybe someone has your password and hacked your screen name. It's not unheard of.

That's just my 5 1/2 cents... :-P

my aim is screwed up too. mine disconnects like every 10-15minutes if it even last for that long. it's just non stop over and over again. it's really annoying.
