Although I stopped playing comp games for ages, I have suddenly got into playing a few friends from school at Command and Conquer Generals. So much fun when you play people you know!!!

Magic the Gathering is the Original.. and the best CCG ever... I couldnt imagine playing anything else.
I am the emulator king... I have full sets of roms for every system from Atari2100 to N64... Take your pick!.... this includes NES, SNES, Sega, Gameboy, GBA, Amiga, Gamegear, etc etc... yeah.. and I am an avid DDR fan sadly. I don't own and x-box, but i do own all 3 Playstation 2 versions and also play at the arcade from time to time. Magic is tripe and far from the best CCG made. It's overly simplistic compared to some I've played.
It's OK if you're 9 years old, but it's time to grow up, man. Of course, by playing CCG's at all you're likely stuck in the sae time-warp I am, but at least try. Magic is like Checkers while a lot of other games are like Chess. Checkers gets the job done, but when you want real though-provocation and challenge, you go with Chess. Nevermind the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars one has to spend to keep up in Magic because they release new sets every three weeks. -Mike Go listen to my band. I agree that the industry has made it very hard to keep up with the game, but then again I've played magic since I was like 9 years old. So perhaps that is why I like it sooo much. It was the "original" CCG, the first I played for sure.
I am not as avid of a player as I used to be, but I try to get a game in here and there. I love magic. And I love Chess. I agree checkers sucks, but Chess owns, but when you talk about CCG's, i guess I never moved beyond MTG -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Eric -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
I played up until the Urza stuff and then the sheer volume of cards and cost just overwhelmed me.
If you ever get the bug to try some others, I have a couple of recommendations. They're not as well-known, but then again Matthew Good isn't as well known as Britney Spears. Sometimes that's a good thing. Seventh Sea Pirates and magic and skeleton crews and stuff like that. You sail the seas and try to sink your opponents ship and crew while forming alliances and the like. Either bombard him with cannon, or board him with cutlass, or manipulate the weather to sink him. Doom Town Undead cowboys, Indians and zombies. Tre-cool. Middle Earth: The Wizards Voted CCG of the year when it came out, it's like the intricacies of a finely crafted stew compared to a plain hamburger patty. Travel Middle Earth trying to gain influence with its people while trying to impede your opponents progress as you choose to be one of the 5 wizards, their "fallen" counter-parts, one of the nine Nazgul or Sauron, or the Balrog of Moria, each with completely different play styles and thousands of strategies to choose from. Little problem is that, when the movies came out, the Tolkien Estate demanded lucrative amounts of money from the company that made the game and the company had to go bankrupt. There are still cards around, however, if you really search. Highly sought-after and collectible at this point. Wow. I. Am. A. Loser. -Mike Go listen to my band. I have one of these. Its the size of a small house, but its made of the proper stuff and works wonders with emulation software. Pinball buttons on the sides and 3 programmable modes. 1 locked to MAME.
You can also get adaptors to have it hooked up to your Xbox, PS2 etc... Muoi muoi with the fun.
Where do I get one of those zany contraptions?

http://www.X-Arcade.com might be a good place to start.
Its not cheap, buts its made from all the same components as the original arcade cabinet frontends. Hence why its the same size as one. Its 'the daddy'. Post Edited (01-27-05 12:58)
