Are you saying you didn't think Wayne Brady, Colin Mochary and Ryan Stiles were funny?

Pop culture? Brit kids are getting it from American teen TV that airs here, and most of it does. Even our adult programming is turning ridiculously Westernised. 'Sex and the City'. 'Ally Mcbeal'. 'Judging Amy'. 'The Third Watch'. 'ER'. Desperate 'Housewives'. 'House'. 'CSI'. 'Charmed'. 'Lost'. All in prime-time slots.
Apart from sport, and the odd documentary, most of our TV is foreign these days. I once observed my mate speaking in obscure and unneccessary questions. He became all too aware of something that he seemingly had not noticed before. I laughed. He was mortified and completely oblivious to it prior to my mentioning. Next thing you know, we'll be calling the pavement, the 'sidewalk', and it's not even as if we want to. The fact that your sister wasn't doing so before she came here, backs up the thought that the accents on TV are stereotyped to be 'American', just as you guys seem to think that all English people are posh through similar pop culture means. Strangely, and somewhat disturbingly, the 'bad guy' in Western TV is usually English too. Why? I have absolutely no idea. I guess we're just an inherently evil nation. Post Edited (08-04-05 10:50)
You're the bad guys because those accents make you sound so prim and proper, with an underlying tone of complete utter EVIL.
What's with the smilies, Sketch? -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
American TV never stereotypes.

I think it's interesting that American TV gets played in many foreign markets, and becomes quite popular, while foreign TV hardly ever get any play in the states. Sure, PBS has a crapload of various British TV, A&E has MI-5 (aka Spooks), and then there's BBC America (or so I've heard), but that's pretty much it. Hell, I find it odd that we get pretty much zero Canadian TV, except for Degrassi (but that's on The N, so I don't have that either).
I assume it mostly has to do with accents. It's hard to understand someone with a thick accent when they speak fast. Either that, or we got the best TV.
