So glad Green Day cleaned up, it was well deserved. What a great show it was so much better than last year.

And it was the lowest rated VMA's since '97, so the rest of the country thought it was ass as well.

VMA '94 as tops. I think was was '94, anyway. The year The Smashing Pumpkins and Snoop Dogg and Henry Rollins and Springsteen performed.
Nothing but top acts from every genre represented.

I think MTV2 can be pretty nifty, actually... and if it wasn't for MTV, I wouldn't have discovered Nine Days.

From what little I saw of the awards (mostly the adverts) I would have chosen Green Day to win, even though I am of the opinion that they have gone downhill from what the once were.

How exactly does MTV "ruin" bands that are supposedly "good?"

Cheapens them, commercializes them, classifies them, etc.

I'm worried about Fall Out Boy too. I didn't know that MTV played them until I noticed them playing the VMA's pre-show.
And I don't know how it is in the UK, but Tool has not been in heavy rotation stateside, as far as I know. "Sober" got big airplay, but I never saw any videos off "Aenima." Although, to be fair, I probably wouldn't have noticed at the time, since I wasn't really into Tool then (although I did love the "Sober" video when it came out).

MTV does not ruin bands, fans who can't come to terms with a band's success ruin bands for themselves.
