comparing songs from TMC and SHU
the madding crowd and so happily unsatisfied have the same number of songs: 12. this is a survey (in a way) of which songs you prefer in their designated spot (for example: picking which one you like more in the #1 slot; so far away or favorite song). i'm gonna list my choices, and i'd like to read your choices, too. feel free to write in comments, as well. show which one is your choice with a * before the song title. (use dashes in between the two albums to make the columns nice and orderly).

Tough Choices:
1, since I totally love "So Far Away," but "Favorite Song" is just that much better
5. Both not my favorite of songs, but about equal in my regard
8. "I Feel Fine" is so awesome, but I just like "Bitter" too much to pick against it
Not-So-Tough Choices:
2. "Good Friend" is one of my least favorite songs on the album
3. "Emily" just frickin rules
And I think after track 7, my nostalgia kicks in, although I believe SHU to be the better all-around album

The Madding Crowd doesnt have a "poppy" radio friendly smash like "Absolutely". "So Far Away" and "End Up Alone" are two songs which COULD have been singles but weren't. As much as I love "If I Am", I think the second single off TMC should have been one of those two.
"The Joneses" or "Favorite Song" could have been singles off SHU. Maybe they still will be.

Easy choices:
#1, SFA is cool, but FS is just the best song ever
#7, 257 weeks is one of my fav songs
#8, I feel fine is one of my fav songs too, Bitter is great too, but easy choice
#9, Back To Me is my least fav
To me you can't beat the "So the story goes.."
And they are the only group to ever get the rights to sample Bob Dylan.. that means something to me.. I think it's one of the best songs they have..
But I haven't listend to all of SHU anyway...
Favorite is ok but if you listen to it a lot it blends in with the rest of the alternative crowd.. i.e. it gets highly repetitive and makes you scurry for the foward/ skip button.
So Far Away is just one of those songs that has so much passionate and emotional energy.. the beginning, if you have any feelings at all, taps into your past and makes you think of better times... whatever those may be to you.

1: i love so far away to death, but favorite song is, uh, my favorite song. i don't know. it took me awhile.
2: haha. which one to choose? i don't particularly care for either of them, except good friend live is awesome, so i picked it.

the joneses is so much better than bob dylan..i love bob dylan its an amazing song but the joneses is defintely a better song
look at the lyrics, man. there's no comparison. aside from that little guitar riff diddy thing that gets stuck in your head and drives you crazy, what does the joneses have going for it?

EDIT: i can't fucking find The Madding Crowd now. i dunno where it is. i suspect mother has it, though. and i was all set to listen to it, too, cuz i was in the mood, but now i have to resort to the new matt good album. that's right, resort.

the guitar riff in the joneses beats bob dylan any day.
even though it gets stuck in your head, and plays over and over, and it never leaves, and it haunts you at night, and you find yourself humming it, drumming it, tapping it, singing it, playing it all the time, it's better than bob dylan.

or i'd like to see more fighting over bob dylan and the joneses. it's entertaining.
I picked The Joneses simply on the principal of which one I'd rather listen to. Bob Dylan is certainly an awesome, and I do enjoy listening to it, but I just think The Joneses is better.
And I think that the guitar riff in Bob Dylan doesn't stand out quit as much as in The Joneses. If I ever had a part of Bob Dylan stuck in my head, it would be the drums and vocals of the verses, but the guitars on that part kinda mesh with the drums.
