Bookstores

Bookstores
January 16, 2006 05:14AM

So my classes start up again and this coming Wednesday is the 2nd class and I need to get the book.

Even though the classes are off-site---the campus bookstores stock the books...obviously. At least they did last semester.

I went to the campus Saturday.. the book store was closed. They closed at 1:00pm

Damn.

I get back to the car--check the time, 1:01pm.

Bastards.

So today..I think I'm all slick and call first to verify that they are, in fact, open. True. Some guy answers and says they are open till 1.

I get to the bookstore and I get the normal..

"Can I hep ya?"

"Yes--I'm looking for 'An Introduction to Management Science' by Anderson, Sweeney and Williams"

"Ohh..We aren't selling books yet."

"What? I called this morning and nobody mentioned that!"

"Did you ask?"

"I'M SUPPOSED TO ASK A BOOKSTORE IF THEY SELL BOOKS?"

"They don't go on sale until next Monday for the spring semester"

"My classes have started already"

That is sort of how the conversation went. They started asking some questions regarding the class and offered some useful help.

Turns out they didn't have the book anyway..and couldn't even find the book on their systems. nice job.

So I just ordered it for 20% less on amazon.

Ok..end of story.

Yes, college bookstores are evil.

Those bookstores rip you off something terrible, they seem to remake the book every year, just using the latest examples. This means you cant buy the books second hand! And new they cost a stupid amount of money for the amount of book you get!

I only spent like 150 or less last semester. That's the least I've ever spent. Of course, I only had three classes and two of them only had one book. My most expensive one was $60.

last semester I only spent 350 but I made up for that with over 800 dollars in books/ lab fees....makes me sick...I already pay quite a bit to come here...
Re: Bookstores

I usually spend around $250 on books. After I buy them I look at them all and think, "Man, this is the semester that I read every one of them and absorb them!"

Then I must kick them them into a black hole, or something, because I never see them again.

I have barely even looked at my textbooks. At least I will be able to sell them mint. Or not! Does anyone else think it is completely insane how every year they change the book in some way so we have to buy the new version, meaning new students can't get books cheap, and returning students can sell their books!

Well I suppose as a business student I can appreciate this, still it screws me over.

I'm going to look on Amazon.com for the ones for one of my classes. The prof. said if it takes a week to get them from there then it's worth it to save the money. Yeah, I always think I'll keep caught up on the reading but I never do.
