When you've been drip fed the same melancholic meanderings of the Coldplays, the Keanes, the Killers and their clones... I can see how you wouldn't 'get' the AM's.
They've suffered a crushing amount of hype unfortunately, but as a guy who has been listening to them since long before they became the trendy thing to talk about, I've got nothing but love and respect for their endeavours to breath some originality into the chart by being audibly, visually and lyricly different. Especially for their age. 'Dancing Shoes' currently rocks my existence. Best of luck to them. Post Edited (01-23-06 10:07)
Neither are Coldplay or Keane? Assuming he wasn't insinuating they were.
I like the Arctic Monkeys. I'm not a critic so I don't really care why, or whether they'll be around in five years, or how many instruments they can play. But they sound good and make me wanna dance. So someone did their job right. Plus their singer is kinda hot. ~ Sofi ~ "And so tomorrow there will be another number for the one who had a name."
I think calling "Sugar We're Going Down" another average punk song is pretty silly. It's distinct, if mostly for the vocals.
They have a knack for writing catchy tunes. -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails

Everyone ought to watch this if they haven't yet, by the way. A brilliant interpretation of Sugar We're Going Down. -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
They write decent stuff and recorded the singer's voice doesn't kill kittens anymore but they are horrible live as my friends have told me.

Bands like that are more about showmanship than sounding good live. Same with the likes of Blink 182. If you just go to a show to be entertained, they do a good job of it. It's just their antics are at the expense of the music.

I adore Fall Out Boy. Have both their albums, yes some of the songs sound a bit similar, but when they sound so freakin' good for a start, does it really matter???
If you havn't heard "I've got a dark alley and a bad idea that says you should shut your mouth" (FUTCT) yet then you owe it to yourself to get it this instant. Beautifull punky/rocky/poppy ballady thingy. Long live FOB!
arctic monkeys lead singer alex turner can't sing.
