I've never really listened to the words in Closing Time, and always assumed it was about sex. Listening to it with the child thing in mind it's ridiculously sweet.

Kenny Edmonds wrote a song called "The Day" after his wife told him she was pregnant.

(I refuse to call him Babyface. It's a lame nickname.)

I agree Babyface is a lame nickname.

Actually, now that I think about it, Babyface is a lame nickname, unless you're a gangster. Baby Face Nelson was a badass.

Oasis - Little James

Underrated song song and slated by most but that's the point of it...a simple song written about a new born - A complex song about a child would be stupid!!

Suunshiiiiiiiinne!!!

The greatest child-inspired song of all time is by Radney Foster (one of the greatest blues/country/folksy singer-songwriters out there... but mainly only well known in Texas). It was a song he wrote for his son when his ex-wife moved his son with her to France. He wanted to be able to sing his son to sleep each night, so he recorded this lullaby for him.

It's called "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)". It is really touching. The Dixie Chicks recently recorded it for their third album... but I like Radney's version of it better.

Check it out, it is worth it for any new father.

Also worth checking out is the double lullaby song by Clint Black, called "Little Pearl and Lily's Lullaby". It's also really sweet and written for Clint's little girl.

Ben Folds - Gracie.

From the Songs for Silverman album. Lovely song. =)

You can't fool me, I saw you when you came out
You got your momma's taste but you got my mouth
And you will always have a part of me
Nobody else is ever going to see
Gracie girl

With your cards to your chest walking on your toes
What you got in the box only Gracie knows
And I would never try to make you be
Anything you didn't really want to be
Gracie girl

Life flies by in seconds
You're not a baby Gracie, you're my friend
You'll be a lady soon but until then
You gotta do what I say

You nodded off in my arms watching TV
I won't move you an inch even thought my arm's asleep

One day you're gonna want to go
I hope we taught you everything you need to know
Gracie girl

And there will always be a part of me
Nobody else is ever gonna see but you and me
My little girl
My Gracie girl

New Jack Johnson and friends album seems quite child inspired, think its because of some new film, not really sure. Really chilled out.

Ha, yeah. There's songs on it like 'The Three R's' - reduce, re-use, recycle and 'The Sharing Song' - 'It's always more fun to share with everyone...' etc.

Good stuff, though. =)
