I am FINALLY seeing Brand New!
i had to cover a store in reading because two of the guys were the festival, and it looked SO RANK AND CROWDED from the train sofi... ew! i hope you were alright... i can only take one rank festival experiance a year and since we sponsor V i get free tickets, but i feel like a an old lady being like 'if it weren't for the free tickets i wouldn't even go'... but rankfest, and at least V is really spread out so you can breathe, reading looked even smaller this year! i can't ever understand people (LIKE my coworker) who can do 5 days at V (he was working it) and then come home and go on hols and do 4 days at reading just for fun! the 3 nights i had to sleep at V were vile and its the most posh/overcommercialised of all the festies i don't think i could stomach a 'real' one like... reading or glasto...
hope you had fun though babes... was watching the coverage and most of the people they showed were pretty rank, all randoms i've never heard of... i think one band played that i wouldn't have minded seeing... V's lineup was pretty mint this year so i'll give them that. ----------------- love.christina ----------------- go here please --- http://www.hanson.net/site/hanson/link/1/87042
They are a terribly sloppy live band, almost embarassingly so sometimes.
That said, I'm seeing them for the third time in December. Nothing will ever be worth seeing after Muse. -Mike Go listen to my band. We're awesome. http://www.myspace.com/rosencrantzny weallgotwoodandnails
They were just really distant and seemed like they didn't wanna be there at all. Barely spoke throughout the set, and the only time they did was to talk about how beautiful the waterfalls in Virginia are. Fair enough, I've been to the Shenandoah valley....it IS pretty gorgeous, but it's not let-me-take-up-five-minutes-of-my-fourty-minute-set-to-talk-about-how-moved-I-was-by -some-water gorgeous. Never really made any connection with the crowd at all. They came across as pretty self-involved.
The actual songs weren't that bad, but who ever did their sound was ****. They were really quiet, and who the **** wants to scream along to Sowing Season unless they're gonna get their ears blasted. Not just the acoustics of the stage, either; I saw plenty other bands of a whole plethora of genres playing on that stage that all sounded really tight. Set wasn't particularly exciting either, I understand they're still promoting their new album but to play a festival in a country where you're not that popular, you'd have thought they'd play at least a couple of more famous tracks. Everything was off The Devil and God save for Ok I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Don't, where the crowd went mental and it was pretty great. Most new tracks just got a pretty indifferent response. And EVERYTHING was speeded (sped?) up, which made Jesus Christ completely lose all its charm. It wasn't too rank or crowded really....you have to embace the griminess, and 90% of the people are awesome awesome people, save for the fucktards that formed a mob and started riots on the Sunday night. I LOVED the lineup...a lot of bands I'd never really listened to before put on fantastic shows; The Long Blondes, Gossip, Jimmy Eat World, Kings of Leon, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Dead 60s, Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, The Noisettes, Good Shoes, Pigeon Detectives, Pete and the Pirates, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Gym Class Heroes, Pull Tiger Tail, Hadouken!, The Sunshine Underground, The Maddabees, Jamie T, CSS, LCD Soundsystem and New Found Glory were all REALLY good. Razorlight, RHCP, The Subways, Klaxons, and Brand New were all in some way disappointing. I don't think I'd ever really like to do V, Reading's nice in how compact it is and SO friendly (when you're not having to fight drunken men chucking bags of rubbish on fires 4 foot from your tents). Met some really cool people. Post Edited (08-29-07 09:06) ~ Sofi ~ "And so tomorrow there will be another number for the one who had a name."
"why not just tune it right during the break, mitch?"
Sure, if you want to hear all your favourite songs butchered by out of tune guitars. It's unpolished but necessary. Nothing worse than seeing a band that don't give a **** about how they sound to you. ~ Sofi ~ "And so tomorrow there will be another number for the one who had a name."
