Girl in California interpretation

Girl in California interpretation

I used to think that this song was just about adultery (grins), but today I thought maybe the the song is really about the conflict between music and love. Obviously, that was an issue in John's life at least in one point when Epic was making him do shows and it conflicted with a relationship with his current wife. So maybe the girl in California is actually the rockstar lifestyle instead of an actual girl. This helps explain the Hollywood references too.

Anyways, I may be reading way too much into this, and I don't wanna get into John's personal business, but I thought someone else might think it's a cool idea.

the guy obviously had an affair on california and then he came back to new york... for the real buisness (maan, this got to be the worst interpretation about a song)...

I think it's simply about a girl in California that he truly loved, but for some reason they never ended up together, instead he settled for his wife in New York (although he may love her greatly, it isn't the same as the girl in California)

I'm living a real life version of this song myself so it seems

This is a funny thread.

John did say that this song was NOT about him--although its certainly more fun to think that it is.

Please.. continue.....

That sounds like the anywhere story he tells during that missouri show.
